GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG. 21st July, 1926.

COL.OFFICE
Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the
feceipt of your despatch Hong Kong No.139 of 18th May,
1926, with reference to the application of Mrs. Wheal in
connection with the contributions of her late husband to
the Hong Kong Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Fund.
2.
While it is impossible to make any refund
of the payments made by him, it might be possible to
grant some pension in respect thereof, but the calculation of the amount of this pension depends very largely upon
the age of Mrs. Wheal and the dates of birth of her
children. In this connection I enclose two copies of
a form which Mrs. Wheal should fill up. Due proof of the marriage would also be required as well as of the
above facts.
3. Furthermore, to qualify for pension it
would be necessary for Mrs. Wheal to refund the sum of
£214. 15s. 44d. being the total of contributions due from
the late Mr. Wheal's pension subsequent to the date of
his former wife's death, which should have been, but were
not in fact paid, together with interest at 6%.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S. AMERY, M.P.,
